#5 Women's Lacrosse Tripped Up By #16 IUP, 11-7

ERIE, Pa. – The fifth-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team suffered an 11-7 loss to 16th-ranked Indiana (Pa.) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday at Tullio Field.
Carly Zimmerman scored two goals while the Lakers' leading point-getter, Emily Gebhardt, totaled one goal and two assists.

Olivia Keirn, Emily Koestler, Christa Morrison and Janelle Williams also had goals for Mercyhurst (12-1, 8-0). Koestler, Williams, Gabby Gravino and Grace Lawson added single assists.

In the groundball department, Koestler and Zimmerman had five and four pickups, respectively. Williams, Zimmerman and Kyla Keefe had three draw controls each while Koestler, Morrison and Zimmerman caused two turnovers apiece.

Gravino had 10 saves in the cage for the Lakers.

Mercyhurst took an early 2-0 lead before a 10-2 stretch by Indiana helped the visiting Crimson Hawks take a 10-4 lead with 11:17 left in the contest. The Lakers scored three of the game's final four goals, but never challenged the IUP lead.

Amy Weinberg led the Hawks with three goals and two assists while breaking the PSAC's all-time record for career assists. She now has 186 assists for IUP.

Winning goalie Angela Lontoc had seven saves for the Hawks.

Indiana (8-5, 6-2) outshot Mercyhurst, 26-23, while the Lakers held an 11-9 advantage in draws.

The Lakers will look to rebound on Saturday when they visit Bloomsburg for a 1 p.m. PSAC contest.
