MILLERSVILLE, Pa. --
Kristin Anderson scored six goals to lead the seventh-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team to a 16-10 win against Millersville during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Friday.
Anderson also picked up six draw controls for the Lakers, who -- with their eighth consecutive win -- sit one victory short of a tying the program record for consecutive wins (set three times: 2008, 2009, 2010).
Carly Zimmerman registered a solid linescore for Mercyhurst (9-1, 6-0), finishing with three goals, one assist, five draw controls and four groundballs.
Emily Gebhardt added two goals and one assist while
Janelle Williams put in two goals for the Lakers.
Kyla Keefe,
Grace Lawson and
Christa Morrison also had goals.
Keefe caused three turnovers,
Kristina Roberti picked up five groundballs and winning goaltender
Gabby Gravino ended with five saves.
For host Millersville (6-5, 3-4), Bridge Hufnagel and Callie Kavanaugh scored three goals apiece. Goalie Bryana Weston-Wyatt had 12 saves.
The teams found themselves knotted three different times -- at 3-3, 6-6 and 7-7 -- before Anderson triggered a 4-0 Mercyhurst run with two goals of her own. That four-goal stretch was the beginning of a game-closing 9-3 run by the Lakers.
Mercyhurst finished the contest with another four-goal streak; once again, Anderson led the way with two goals.
Mercyhurst outshot Millersville, 34-23, and held a 16-11 edge on draws.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday with a 3 p.m. PSAC contest at Shippensburg.
