SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. --
Kristin Anderson and
Carly Zimmerman combined for 11 goals, leading the 10th-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team to a 21-10 victory over Shepherd in non-conference play on Wednesday.
Anderson scored six goals and Zimmerman put in five for the Lakers (3-1), who took a 5-1 lead and never trailed. Anderson also controlled eight draws.
Emily Gebhardt and
Janelle Williams added two goals apiece for Mercyhurst while
Amy Hoffman,
Olivia Keirn,
Grace Lawson,
Christa Morrison,
Morgan Parker and
Taylor Santiago had one goal each. Williams made five draw controls and Morrison caused four turnovers.
In the assists department,
Taylor Izzo finished with two helpers. Gebhardt, Lawson and
Catherine Meegan contributed one apiece.
Defensively,
Kyla Keefe had five groundballs while
Emily Koestler and
Kristina Roberti picked up three each. Winning goaltender
Gabby Gravino made three saves.
Down 5-1, host Shepherd (0-4) eventually closed its deficit to two goals before Mercyhurst took a 10-7 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Lakers outscored Rams, 11-3. That period included a stretch in which Anderson and Zimmerman put in two goals each.
Shepherd was led by Erin Phelan, who scored four goals. Goalie Savannah Shores stopped 18 shots.
The Lakers will be in action next on Tuesday, Mar. 15, when they host Seton Hill in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest. Opening draw will occur at 4 p.m.
