Lawson's Late Heroics Lift #11 Women's Lax Over #17 Seton Hill, 12-11, in 4OT

ERIE, Pa. -- Grace Lawson scored the game-winning goal in quadruple-overtime as the 11th-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated No. 17 Seton Hill, 12-11, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest at Tullio Field on Tuesday.

Lawson also scored the goal that forced extra-time, connecting with 6:39 remaining in the second half. Later, she scored with 55 seconds left in the fourth OT period -- 11:05 into extra time.

Janelle Williams had three goals and one assist while Carly Zimmerman put in three goals of her own for the Lakers (4-1, 1-0). Kristin Anderson, Emily Gebhardt, Taylor Izzo and Kristina Roberti also had goals for Mercyhurst. Gebhardt made an assist.

Morrison also totaled five draw controls, four groundballs and four caused turnovers. Williams picked up six draws, Gebhardt had four groundballs and Christa Morrison caused three turnovers.

Winning goaltender Gabby Gravino finished with eight saves.

MU took an early 2-0 lead, but the visiting Griffins (1-4, 0-1) eventually took a 6-5 advantage into halftime. Mercyhurst did not lead again until Roberti's goal with 18:16 remaining in the contest as the host Lakers took a 9-8 advantage.

The teams traded goals -- SHU pulled even and then MU took a 10-9 lead -- until consecutive goals by Seton Hill's Emily Fagan and Alessandra Nicholas gave the visitors an 11-10 lead with 8:37 left. That set the stage for Lawson's two scores.

Fagan led all scorers, finishing with seven goals for SHU. Nicolasa added one goal and three assists. Nicholas and Fagan had five and four draw controls, respectively, while goalie Megahn Hollar had 19 saves.

The Lakers will return to action on Saturday when eighth-ranked West Chester visits Tullio Field for an 11 a.m. PSAC contest.
