Softball Takes Three in Salem, VA Friday Afternoon against, Shepard, Tiffin, and Malone

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 SALEM, VA, - The Mercyhurst University softball team swept the day on Friday, March 11, as they went on to defeat Shepard, 5-4, Tiffin (OH), 7-4, and Malone, 10-1. With the wins, the Lakers improve their record to 3-2 overall.

Game One: Mercyhurst 5 Shepard 4


Allison Yule opened the scoring, when she roped a double to center field, giving the Lakers an early 2-0 lead.

Mercyhurst would tack on two more runs in the second inning, as Rachel DiBartolomeo doubled to center field, scoring Cassandra Egelston, and Francesca Costanzo.

The Rams would pull back within one, 4-3, in the bottom half of the third, when Connor Gilligan hit a two-run homerun over the center field wall.

Dibartolomeo gave Mercyhurst an insurance run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single to second base.

Shepard would tack on another run in the bottom half of the sixth, to finish the scoring at 5-4.

Game Two: Mercyhurst 7 Tiffin (OH) 4

Mercyhurst got off to an early two-run lead, when Yule hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring DiBartolomeo in the top of the first. Courtney Brothers would then hit an RBI single, to make the score 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third.

After the Dragons tied the game in the bottom half of the third, Mercyhurst came back to regain the lead, 5-3, in the fifth, when Tawney Gadin and Brothers each drove in a run.

The Lakers would put the game away in the sixth, scoring three runs on three hits. Diartolomeo and Brothers were credited with RBIs in the inning, to lift the Lakers to their second win of the day.

Game Three: Mercyhurst 10 Malone 1 (5 Innings)

The Lakers started their onslaught on the Pionners in the third, as a Godin reached on an error that scored two Lakers.

Mercyhurst would tack on three more in the fourth, when Dibartolomeo tripled and scored Egelston from first. Yule followed with a two-run RBI double, giving the Lakers a 6-1 lead.

DiBartolomeo got the party started in the fifth, as she recorded her third hit if the game, through the right side, scoring Taylor Jezuit.

Brothers would end the game on a three-run triple; her second hit of the day (2-2).The Lakers will be back in action tomorrow for three more games in Salem. Mercyhurst will face-off against Lincoln Memorial, West Virginia Wesleyan, and Ohio Valley tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
