Box Score 3 SALEM, VA – The Mercyhurst University softball team took one-of-three contests Saturday afternoon, to even their record at 4-4 overall. The Lakers finish their trip in Salem, Virginia, going 4-2 the past two days.
Game One: Mercyhurst 1 Lincoln Memorial 2The box score for the Mercyhurst versus Lincoln Memorial game will be made available at a later date.
Game Two: Mercyhurst 0 #13 West Virginia Wesleyan 8The 13th-ranked Bobcats would strike first, scoring three runs on three hits in the bottom half of the first inning.
Starting Pitcher
Portia McBride would go on to hold the Bobcats scoreless the next four innings, before Wesleyan scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth. McBride finished the day pitching five and two-thirds innings, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits.
Mercyhurst was held to only one hit in the ballgame.
Game Three: Mercyhurst 7 Ohio Valley 0The Lakers would come back in the nightcap and pitch a shutout over Ohio Valley, 7-0.
Anna Cochis pitched all seven innings for Mercyhurst, allowing five hits and struck out two batters.
The bats also awoke in game three, as the Lakers scored three runs in the second and fourth inning, with one run in the third, to pull away with their fourth victory of the year. Mercyhurst finished with nine hits.
Jamie Ward and
Ellie Dougher each had an RBI single in the second, before
Kayla Larson stole home, to give the Lakers an early 3-0 lead.
Rachel DiBartolomeo led off the third inning with a solo homerun, helping Mercyhurst pull ahead, 4-0.
Cassandra Egelston and
Courtney Brothers would drive in three Lakers in the fourth inning.
Brothers one-out, two-RBI single to center field put the game away for Mercyhurst, as McBride put Ohio Valley down easy, only allowing one hit in the seventh inning.
Mercyhurst will be back in action next Sunday, March 20, when they travel to Hartsville, South Carolina for a doubleheader at Coker College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
