SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The 13th-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-10 decision to second-ranked Le Moyne in non-conference action on Sunday. The host Dolphins closed the game with a three-goal run to push past the Lakers.
Carly Zimmerman scored three goals and
Emily Gebhardt added two goals and two assists for the Lakers (1-1).
Kristin Anderson,
Kyla Keefe,
Olivia Keirn,
Grace Lawson and
Janelle Williams also tallied goals for Mercyhurst.
Defensively,
Christa Morrison and
Kristina Roberti caused three turnovers apiece. Roberti grabbed five ground balls and goalie
Gabby Gravino made nine saves.
Mercyhurst trailed or found itself tied for much of the contest before a three-goal run in the second half gave the Lakers their only lead. Anderson and Gebhardt scored 18 seconds apart to the the game at 9-9 before a Zimmerman score put the Lakers ahead, 10-9, with 9:29 remaining in the second half.
Bryanna Fazio, who led Le Moyne with five goals and one assist, scored a game-tying goal with 6:34 left before a go-ahead score by teammate Erica Geremia just 31 seconds later. Fazio added a man-up goal as insurance before the final whistle.
Winning goalie Christina Humbert totaled four saves for Le Moyne. The Dolphins outshot the Lakers, 27-17.
Mercyhurst will return to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. non-conferenc contest at Tiffin.
