Women's Ice Hockey Blanks RIT, 2-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Brooke Hartwick and Emily Janiga scored goals and winning goaltender Sarah McDonnell totaled 11 saves in the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team's 2-0 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology in College Hockey America action on Saturday.

Hartwick gave the visiting Lakers (16-10-4, 13-3-2) a 1-0 lead early in the second period, getting assists from Sarah Robello and Megan Whiddon. Janiga tacked on an insurance goal with 3:50 remaining in regulation with assists from Lauren Kilroy and Rachael Smith.

Jetta Rackleff stopped 38 shots in net for the Tigers (7-24-1, 3-14-1).

Neither team was successful on the power play -- the Lakers, in five attempts, and the Tigers, in two tries. Mercyhurst outshot RIT, 40-11.

The Lakers, who have won four straight contests, will host Penn State on Feb. 19-20 in a pair of CHA contests at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. They will look to clinch their 16th straight CHA regular season championship.
