Brooke Hartwick and
Emily Janiga scored goals and winning goaltender
Sarah McDonnell totaled 11 saves in the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team's 2-0 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology in College Hockey America action on Saturday.
Hartwick gave the visiting Lakers (16-10-4, 13-3-2) a 1-0 lead early in the second period, getting assists from
Sarah Robello and
Megan Whiddon. Janiga tacked on an insurance goal with 3:50 remaining in regulation with assists from
Lauren Kilroy and
Rachael Smith.
Jetta Rackleff stopped 38 shots in net for the Tigers (7-24-1, 3-14-1).
Neither team was successful on the power play -- the Lakers, in five attempts, and the Tigers, in two tries. Mercyhurst outshot RIT, 40-11.
The Lakers, who have won four straight contests, will host Penn State on Feb. 19-20 in a pair of CHA contests at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. They will look to clinch their 16th straight CHA regular season championship.
