Men's Ice Hockey Skates To 2-2 Tie With RMU

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team and Robert Morris skated to a 2-2 overtime tie during Atlantic Hockey play on Sunday in front of 1,029 spectators at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Sophomore Les Lancaster and freshman Joey Duszak scored the goals for Mercyhurst (7-9-1, 7-6-1) while junior Nathan Ferriero and sophomores Taylor Best, Joshua Lammon and Tommaso Bucci had assists.

Eric Israel and Brady Ferguson scored goals for Robert Morris (9-6-3, 7-5-2).

After a scoreless first period, Robert Morris scored a goal before Mercyhurst came back with two goals of their own. Robert Morris would then tie the game at 2-2 before the second period ended.

Israel got the Colonials on the board first with a 5-on-3 power-play goal.

Lancaster tied the game at 1-1 with an assist from Best. Best passed the puck across the ice to Lancaster, who was wide open and buried his chance. Ferriero picked up the other assist.

Duszak then picked up his second goal of the season to put the Lakers up 2-1. Lammon slid the puck over to Duszak, who shot the puck through traffic and found the back of the net. Bucci tallied the second assist.

Robert Morris came back with a goal from Ferguson to tie the game at 2-2.

The Lakers were 0-for-5 on the power play while the Colonials went 2-for-7.

Freshman goaltender Colin DeAugustine saved 43 out of 45 shots for the Lakers and Francis Marotte stopped 23 out of 25 pucks for the Colonials.

The Lakers are back in action on Friday, Dec. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 31, in Minnesota for the Mariucci Classic. Mercyhurst will take on the host Golden Gophers before meeting either Massachusetts or Alabama-Huntsville.
