Box Score ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's basketball team has started their season strong reaching the 4-0 mark which hasn't been accomplished in program history since 1996-97 season in which they accumulated five win streak. The Lakers rolled past the Marauders of Millersville with a score of 60-49 on November 20th. This win bumps their overall season record to 4-0 while jumping to 2-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
The teams traded leading positions in the first half, having the Lakers battling from behind an early five point Millersville lead, in the first quarter eventually taking the lead and ending the first half 30-28. During the second half the Lakers ran away with the score board claiming a game high lead of 14 points, before coming to rest at their 11 point victory.
The Lakers offense was led by senior guard
Jalin Steel who posted a game high of 17 points. Followed closely by teammate sophomore guard
Maria Lapertosa, who put up 16 points, while also pulling down 11 rebounds. To add two these standouts,
Natalie Piaggesi was the last Laker to break into double digits posting 10 points throughout the game.
The Lakers shot 12-29 (46.2%) from the field while holding the Marauders to 20-53 (37.7%).
The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team will take the court again next on the road, November 26th against Hillsdale, at 3 PM. This contest will take at Ashland University as part of the Ashland University Tournament.
