Men's Ice Hockey Bounces Back With 4-2 Win Over Holy Cross

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team rallied in the third period to grab a 4-2 win and split the weekend series against Holy Cross during Atlantic Hockey play in front of 1,534 spectators on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Junior Jonathan Charbonneau had two goals while senior Kyle Dutra and junior Nathan Ferriero had one goal each. Ferriero's goal was his first collegiate goal.

Sophomore Derek Barach and senior Philippe Drouin had two assists apiece while Charbonneau, junior Patrick Piacentini and sophomores Les Lancaster and Jeremy Wu had one assist each.

Charbonneau got the Lakers on the board first, recording the only goal in the first period. Barach and Drouin picked up the assists on the goal.

During a two-on-one play, Barach carried the puck down the ice and passed it to Dutra who buried it in the back of the net for the Lakers second goal of the game. Charbonneau tallied the other assist on the goal.

Holy Cross then came back with two goals of its own to tie the game at 2-2. Danny Lopez and Mitch Collett recorded the Crusader goals.

During the third period, Wu took a shot on net and Charbonneau tapped home the rebound to put the Lakers back on top 3-2. Lancaster had the second assist.

Halfway through the third period, Ferriero received the puck from Drouin across the ice and found the back of the net to give the Lakers an insurance goal and seal the 4-2 win.

The Lakers went 1-for-8 on the power play, while the Crusaders went 1-for-6.

MU freshman goaltender Colin DeAugustine picked up his first collegiate win by stopping 17 out of 19 shots on net. Holy Cross goaltender Paul Berrafato saved 31 out of the 35 shots he faced.

The Lakers are back in action on Tues. Nov. 15 against Niagara University in Niagara. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
