ABBREVIATED GAME NOTES
THE GAME
The Mercyhurst football team will visit  Gannon for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division contest on Saturday, Oct. 8. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
The Lakers are coming off a 38-35 PSAC West road win over cross-town rival Gannon. Then-ninth-ranked SRU lost to No. 24 California (Pa.) that same day, 52-26.
Saturday's matchup between Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock will be the ninth meeting between the two programs. The all-time series is tied, 4-4, as the programs have alternated wins since their first contest in 2008.
THE COACHES
Marty Schaetzle (Bucknell '83) is in his 15th season as head coach for Mercyhurst. He owns a 76-83 record. He is a three-time PSAC West Coach of the Year (2008, 2010, 2014) and has coached the Lakers to two PSAC West regular-season championships (2010, 2012) and one PSAC overall title (2010). Prior to coaching at Mercyhurst, Schaetzle has held assistant coach positions at Bucknell, Shippensburg, Northern Arizona, Sonoma State, Arizona and Albany.
Shawn Lutz (West Virginia '96) is in his first year as head coach for Slippery Rock. He has a 4-1 record. Lutz has spent 21 seasons on The Rock's staff, including eight as a defensive coordinator and four as an associate head coach.

The Lakers will host Edinboro for a 12 p.m. PSAC West kickoff.
The Fighting Scots are now 4-1 on the season with a 1-1 record in the PSAC West. Edinboro is set to host Gannon on Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. The Fighting Scots will also celebrate their Homecoming.
