Box Score ERIE Pa. – The Mercyhurst field hockey team extended their win streak to two games today. As they took down Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) competitor Indiana (Pa.) with a score of 4-3. The Lakers extended their season record to 2-10, while moving up to 2-4 in PSAC. Indiana will drop to a 6-5 overall record and 2-3 in the PSAC.
Leading scorer for the Lakers was
Katelyn Smith who recorded two goals during the game, assisted by
Nicolette Tomani, and
Emily Burns. Smith scored both her season first and second goals, the latter being the game winning goal. Tomani scored the first goal for the Lakers knotting the action in the early first half, after a shot found its way from Indiana's Selena West. Tomani was able to capitalize off of a deflected shot from
Taylor Balser, who earned an assist for her efforts.
Jessica Brandon scored late in the first half to put the Lakers in the lead with a score of 2-1 going into the second half. Goal-Keeper
Sam Takac was credited for three saves for her efforts in the goal for the Lakers.
The two other Indiana (Pa.) goal scorers were Matti Reightler, who scored unassisted, and Amber Bailey who was assisted by Reightler.
The Lakers are scheduled to play next against Shippensburg University Saturday October 14th at 5:00 PM. Fans attending Saturday's game are encouraged to wear purple as a sign of respect and support for all whom were effected by the passing of Shippensburg All-Star Amanda Strous.
