Himes Reaches Milestone; #8 Women's Lacrosse Falls to #2 Lock Haven, 10-9

ERIE, PA - The #8 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team lost to the #2 ranked Lock Haven University Wednesday afternoon by a score of 10-9. Senior, Rebecca Himes, set a personal milestone after scoring 3 goals and 3 assists in the contest, earning her 300 points on her career. Himes is the second player in school history to reach the 300 point marker for the women's lacrosse program.

Himes came out strong and scored her first goal of the game within the first minute of play. The Laker attack followed her lead and were relentless on offense in the first ten minutes of the game. Seniors Mackenzie Jordan and Jenna Schlagenhauf scored goals to make the game 3-0 at 21:15. Lock Haven answered back with three goals of their own to tie up the game 3-3, but the Bald Eagles never took the lead. Jordan scored her second goal of the game from an assist from Himes, before Himes turned around and scored an unassisted goal to make the contest 5-4. The half closed with Regan Kaestner finding the back of the net with 1:30 left in the half to send the teams into halftime 6-4.

The second half started with a goal from the Bald Eagle attack to make the contest 6-5. At 19:33, Taylor Ventre was able to put away her lone goal of the game on a free position shot. Finding the team energized, junior, Emily Gebhardt, was able to find Jenna Schlagenhauf in front of the goal to score and make the game 8-5. Lock Haven found themselves maintaining offensive possession and wearing down the Laker defense. The squad was able to close in on the Laker lead and make the game 8-8 with 6:58 left in the second half. Becca Himes scored a final goal at 4:14, but it was not enough to overtake the Bald Eagles. Lock Haven won the contest 10-9.

Goalie, Rebecca Muscella, had a big game in net coming up with 6 saves in the contest.

The Lakers return to the field this Saturday in a game versus their downtown rival, Gannon University. The contest will be hosted by Gannon at 6:00pm.
