ERIE, PA - The #8 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated the Gannon Golden Knights by a score of 11-9 Saturday night. Two Lakers had three points in the contest, underclassmen attack
Emily Gebhardt and Kristen Anderson.
The Lakers (10-2, 6-1 PSAC) found their first goal of the game from an unassisted shot by junior
Emily Gebhardt. After Gannon answered with a goal of their own, Kristen Anderson found the back of the net, from an assist by seniorÂ
Hannah Corton. With 17:21 left in the first half,Â
Rebecca Himes was able to score her first and only goal of the game. Gannon fought from behind and scored a quick two goals, to tie the game 3-3. The fourth goal of the game was scored by midfielder
Mackenzie Jordan after she capitalized on a free position shot. Jenna Schlagenhauf was the next Laker to score, earning her 32nd goal of the season. Anderson scored her second goal of the contest before Gannon scored a few goals of their own, to send the game into halftime 6-6.
Anderson and Corton came out hungry in the second half to score the first two goals for the Lakers. Gebhardt was able to score her second of the game from an assist from Carly Zimmerman. Tied at 9 with 6:15 left in the game,
Taylor Ventre was awarded two free position shots which she converted into goals to give the Lakers the lead and ultimately the win.
Mercyhurst had 26 ground balls for the game and won 15 out of 22Â draw controls.
They will return to Tullio Field on Tuesday, 4/14, to take on IUP for a conference game beginning at 4:00pm.   Â
