#13 Men's Lacrosse Hammers Alderson-Broaddus, 14-1, Sunday Afternoon

ERIE, Pa. - The 13th-ranked Mercyhurst University men's lacrosse team had no trouble on Sunday afternoon, taking care of Alderson-Broaddus by a 14-1 final in an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) contest at Tullio Field. The Lakers improved to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play while the Battlers dropped to 3-9 overall and 1-5 against ECAC opponents.

Sophomores James Crowe and Keyan McQueen each had five goals while fellow sophomore Derek Richards had a goal and five helpers in the victory.

Mercyhurst jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back. McQueen tallied three goals in the opening fifteen minutes while Crowe added two and Richards had the other.

Just one goal was scored in the second quarter - McQueen's fourth of the contest - with just three seconds left in the first half to give the Lakers a 7-0 advantage at halftime.

Senior Trevor Vargo gave the Lakers an 8-0 lead with his 20th goal of the season at 12:04. The Battlers finally solved the Laker defense and graduate student goalkeeper Michael Grace when Jordan Look scored with 7:34 left in the third quarter.

Crowe gave the Lakers a 9-1 lead two minutes later for the final goal of the third quarter.

Crowe added the first two goals of the fourth quarter, his fourth and fifth of the game, to extend the Laker lead to 11-1. Nine seconds after Crowe's final tally, McQueen scored his fifth goal of the game to balloon the lead to 12-1.

Junior Connor Enright and freshman August Snyder finished off the scoring for the Lakers. It was Snyder's first collegiate goal after playing his high school lacrosse locally at McDowell.

After scoring five times on Sunday, Crowe extended his team-leading goal total to 28 on the season. McQueen, with his five goals, jumped into second on the team with 21.

Mercyhurst dominated statistically, outshooting Alderson-Broaddus, 43-19. The Lakers also held a 34-18 advantage in ground balls, won 15-of-19 faceoffs, and forced the Battlers into 29 turnovers.

Grace played the first three quarters to improve to 7-5 on the season. He allowed one goal while stopping five shots. Junior Matt Wells played the fourth quarter and stopped the only two shots on goal he faced.

Alderson-Broaddus' Dom Moriarty stopped 14 shots in the loss.

Mercyhurst will play its final game of the regular season on Saturday, April 25, against Wheeling Jesuit in another ECAC matchup. Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
