ERIE, PA – The #7 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated the Bloomsburg University Huskies this Saturday afternoon by a score of 16-8. Senior captain
Rebecca Himes set a school record with 134 career assists, breaking the previous record of 132 held by former Laker Ally Keirn. Her performance today tallied 3 goals and 3 assists to lead the team in points.
Bloomsburg opened the game with two goals before
Olivia Keirn found
Jenna Schlagenhauf in front of the net to make the game 2-1 at 18:22. The Huskies scored another goal to make it 3-1 before the Lakers turned around and went on a seven goal scoring streak to send the team into the second half. Becca Himes and
Janelle Williams added two goals apiece towards this scoring momentum, with Keirn and
Emily Gebhardt on attack for the Lakers scoring goals in this half as well.
Senior
Mackenzie Jordan scored the first goal of the second half for the Lakers at 25:10. Shortly thereafter, Mercyhurst leading 8-4, midfielder
Kristina Roberti scored her first goal of the season on an unassisted shot. Himes converted a free position shot at 15:10 to make the contest 10-5. Once again, Keirn assisted a goal of Schlagenhauf's, before underclassmen
Kristin Anderson and
Carly Zimmerman scored back to back goals with 5:42 remaining in the second. Himes added a final assist to the goal of senior,
Hannah Corton, to make the contest 14-8. Midfielders
Taylor Ventre and
Mackenzie Jordan added the final two goals of the game to ensure the win, 16-8.
Rebecca Muscella had 12 saves versus the Huskies and is credited with the win. Mercyhurst had 25 ground balls and won 12-26 draw controls.
The squad will return to action this coming Wednesday, 4/22 versus Slippery Rock University. The Rock will host the Lakers with a game time of 4:00pm.
