Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#7 Women’s Lacrosse Trounces Kutztown, 17-6

ERIE, PA – The #7 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated the Kutztown Golden Bears this Friday afternoon by a score of 17-6. Rebecca Himes led the Lakers, tallying 5 points with 2 goals and 3 assists. Midfielders Carly Zimmerman and Mackenzie Jordan each added a hat-trick to help out the Laker attack.

The first goal of the contest was scored by junior Emily Gebhardt. Kutztown answered back a few minutes later with a goal of their own, before sophomore Janelle Williams converted a free position shot to make the game 2-1. Jordan stepped up and scored the next two goals for the team, paving the way for the scoring momentum to continue. Himes and Zimmerman found the back of the net to make the game 6-2. Kutztown scored their last goal of the half before the Lakers went on a 9 goal scoring streak. Olivia Keirn found Jenna Schlagenhauf at 1:52 to score her first of the game. With one minute left in the half, Himes, Schlagenhauf, and Jordan all scored to send the game into halftime, Lakers winning 10-3.

The scoring streak continued into the second half, when Becca Himes assisted Keirn and Zimmerman to make the game 12-3. Underclassmen sparked the next action for the Laker attack, sophomore Morgan Parker assisted Williams on her second goal of the game before Zimmerman scored her third with 15:04 left in the second. With a lead of 14-3, freshman midfielder Kristin Anderson scored her lone goal of the game at 13:39. Kutztown scored their final three goals of the game before Parker snuck one behind their goalie to make the game 16-6 with two minutes left. Freshman Grace Lawson scored an unassisted goal with 1:18 left in the game to round out the scoring for Mercyhurst.

Kyra Maludy was in net for the Lakers and picked up 9 saves with the win. The squad picked up 18 ground balls and won 17-25 draw controls.

Mercyhurst will face fellow PSAC opponent, Bloomsburg University, tomorrow at 1:00pm.
