#9 Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Findlay 19-9

ERIE, PA – The #9 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team wion its first game of the season beating Findlay 19-9 on Sunday afternoon. Jenna Schlagenhauf led the team with 5 goals and 2 assists.  Becca Himes picked up 9 assists to tie the school record for most assists in a single contest previously held by Amy Perry against Fredonia State on March 28th, 1999.

The Lakers came out strong on offense tallying two quick goals from Schlagenhauf and Taylor Ventre. After Findlay answered with a goal of their own, senior, Hannah Corton, was able to find the back of the net for two goals to kickstart a 5 goal run for the Lakers.  The offensive momentum was continued by the attack of Emily Gebhardt and Schlagenhauf, before Findlay forward Kyra Bradley picked up an unassisted goal with 15:10 remaining in the first half.

Other Lakers picking up goals in the first half were Kristin Anderson, Regan Kaestner, Olivia Keirn, and Mackenzie Jordan. In the first half alone, Keirn was able to post a hattrick. Mercyhurst was up 14-4 against Findlay as time ran out in the first.

At 27:47 in the second, Mackenzie Jordan fired a shot past Findlay goalie Rachel Heath to make the contest 15-4. Himes continued to assist her teammates, adding helpers to the goals of Morgan Parker, Schlagenhauf, and Anderson, pacing the Lakers to a comfortable lead of 18-6. Findlay scored a few goals of their own, including two from forward, Michelle Lortie.  With 1:22 left in the game, Schlagenhauf found the stick of Grace Lawson to round out the Lakers scoring for the half. Starting goalie, Rebecca Muscella, had 7 saves for the day and is credited with the win.

The Mercyhurst Lakers improve to 1-1 for the season, and the Findlay Oilers fell to 0-4. The Lakers leave for an away contest at Queens University of Charlotte on 3/13, before returning home to make up a previously postponed match versus St. Thomas Aquinas College on 3/15.
