Women's Lacrosse Rallies Past Queens, 13-9

CHARLOTTE, NC – The #9 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated Queens University of Charlotte 13-9 this afternoon in a non-conference match in North Carolina.

Queens was winning the game at half, but Mercyhurst was able to battle back and score 6 additional goals in order to claim the win.The Lakers defense lead by goalie Rebecca Muscella held their opposition to only one goal in the entire second half.

The game opened with a free position shot and quick goal from Laker forward, Jenna Schlagenhauf. Both teams began to trade goals back and forth before Carly Zimmerman regained control scoring two consecutive goals for the attack. Concluding the scoring for the Lakers were Emily Gebhardt, Hannah Corton, Janelle Williams, Taylor Ventre, and Olivia Keirn. High scorer of the game was Keirn, finding the back of the net four separate times in this contest.  

The Lakers outshot their opponents 22-20, and held the advantage in ground balls 19-9. However, they did fall short in the draw advantage, with Queens winning 13 out of the 23 draws.

The Lakers return to the field this Sunday, 3/15 at 12p.m. to play a rescheduled game on Tullio Field. Mercyhurst will be hosting St. Thomas Aquinas for this non-conference matchup.
