ERIE, PA – The #8 ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team beat the #16 Seton Hill Griffins Wednesday afternoon 17-10.
Rebecca Himes had 7 points for the Lakers, tallying 4 goals and 3 assists.
Himes set the pace for the contest just 17 seconds into the game, scoring an unassisted goal for the Lakers at 29:43. Following her lead, junior
Emily Gebhardt began to set up a slew of assists, adding helpers to the goals of
Mackenzie Jordan and
Olivia Keirn. Meanwhile, the Griffins answered back with a few goals of their own. Midfielder,
Hannah Corton, scored her first goal of the game unassisted at 15:04 to take back the lead and make the game 4-3. Gebhardt, Himes, and Corton each scored another goal for the attack to take the game into halftime leading 7-6.
Olivia Keirn and
Mackenzie Jordan each picked up another goal as they were both assisted by Gebhardt to begin the scoring momentum for the second half. Seton Hill attack Keagan Pontious scored her third and fourth goals of the game to catch the Griffins up and make the contest 9-8 with the Lakers still in the lead.
At 18:34, the squad began to light up the Seton Hill goalie. The attack went on a five goal scoring streak, with more goals coming from Jordan and Himes. Seniors
Taylor Ventre and
Regan Kaestner were able to find the back of the net to make the game 14-8. Only two lone goals were scored by the Griffins for the rest of the match, as Himes, Jordan, and Corton finalized the scoring for Mercyhurst in the second half.
The Lakers advance to an 8-1 record for the season, remaining undefeated in the PSAC. The team had 14 draw controls during today's match and they picked up 12 ground balls. They will return to Tullio Field on Saturday, April 4
th, for a home contest versus Edinboro University at 11:00am.
