#7 Women’s Lacrosse Takes Care of Tiffin, 14-11

ERIE, PA – The #7 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated Tiffin University 14-11 on Thursday afternoon. Senior, Rebecca Himes, scored three goals and added three assists to lead the Laker attack.

Tiffin came out strong on offense and was able to put away two quick goals on goalkeeper, Rebecca Muscella. However, Mercyhurst bounced back with tenacity. The Lakers went on attack and scored nine times in less than twenty minutes, making the game 9-2 with 7:08 left in the half.

Himes broke out and scored an unassisted goal at the 26:32 mark to start the scoring for the Lakers. Following her direction, the rest of the Laker offense jumped on board with goals. Junior, Emily Gebhardt was able to find midfielder Taylor Ventre at 25:06 to score a quick one-touch goal past the Tiffin goalkeeper. Momentum continued as the Laker attack rallied to find the back of the net with goals from Mackenzie Jordan, Janelle Williams, and Jenna Schlagenhauf. Gebhardt and Himes were able to score two goals apiece in this first half of gameplay. Tiffin offense rounded out the scoring for the half adding two final goals to make the game 9-4 going into halftime.

At 27:44 in the second, Mercyhurst was able to go on another scoring run, adding 5 goals within the first ten minutes of play. Midfielders, Jordan, Ventre, and Williams were all able to post their second goals of the game quickly at the start of the half. At attack, Schlagenhauf recorded her second and third goals at 24:28 and 24:06. Tiffin was able to score a few final goals of their own, but the Laker defense proved to outlast their attack. Laker goalkeeper, Muscella is credited with the win.

Mercyhurst outshot their opponents 33-17 and collected 15 out of 22 possible ground balls.

Mercyhurst moves to 4-1 on the season and will travel to Millersville this Saturday for their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match of the year. The game is scheduled for a 1:00pm start.
