ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will travel to Slippery Rock to take on The Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division matchup. Wednesday night's game will tipoff at 6:00 p.m. at Morrow Field House.
Mercyhurst is coming off a tough loss at Gannon, 59-49, where the Lakers jumped out to an early 10 point lead in the first half, but were unable to hold off the Golden Knights.
Natalie Piaggesi led the Lakers in scoring with 13, while
Angela Heintz was the only other player to score in double digits, posting 11 points. Piaggesi continues to lead the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.5 points and 7.3 rebounds. She is one of only nine women to record at least one triple-double this season and ranks 21st in the country in field goal percentage (55.5%).
Slippery Rock enters Wednesday night's game off a win at Pitt-Johnstown, 88-78. Three Rock players scored in double-figures with D'Asia Chambers leading the way, recording 24 points and 15 rebounds in just 25 minutes of action. Chambers is currently 2nd in the conference in scoring, averaging 17.1 points per game, and is 3rd in rebounding, averaging 10.1 boards. Taylor Siggers added 17 points in the win, while Breanna Gross came off the bench to score 16.
Mercyhurst has defeated The Rock five of the last seven meetings. The two teams split a season ago. Each team beat one another on their home court. Mercyhurst defeated Slippery Rock, 82-75, on January 18, and The Rock came to Erie to beat the Lakers, 70-63, February 12. The Lakers defeated Slippery Rock earlier this season on January 10, 80-68, at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
