ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's basketball team will travel to Morrow Field House to take on Slippery Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4.
Mercyhurst enters Wednesday night's game after falling to crosstown rival Gannon Saturday at the Hammermill Center, 55-46.
James Ewing led the Lakers, posting eight points and grabbing six rebounds, as no player reached double figures in scoring for the first time this season.
Damon Jones continues to lead the team in scoring average, recording 11.0 points per game, while
Gerrae Williams trails, averaging 10.3. Mercyhurst ranks 13th among all NCAA Division II programs in turnover margin (4.6), 15th in scoring defense (62.5) and 26th in free throw percentage (75.1).
The Rock comes into Wednesday leading the country in rebound margin (13.7), averaging 46.9 rebounds per game. Slippery Rock edged Pitt-Johnstown on the boards Saturday, 37-34, but lost, 77-59. Antonio Butler, who leads The Rock in scoring this season, paced Slippery Rock Saturday, scoring 15 points on just 4-15 shooting from the field. Cornelius Brown leads the team in rebounding and is 14th overall in the PSAC, averaging 6.5 boards per game.
As of late, the rivalry has been as heated as ever. Each team has split the past five regular season meetings with each team also defeating one another in the PSAC Tournament. Mercyhurst defeated Slippery Rock earlier this season, January 10, 65-58, at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
