HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team answered a two-goal deficit, defeating Colgate, 4-2, in non-conference action on Tuesday.
Paige Horton,
Emily Janiga,
Taylor Accursi and
Jenna Dingeldein recorded the Laker goals after the host Raiders built a 2-0 first-period lead. Dingeldein also had an assist.
J'nai Mahadeo recorded two assists.
Mercyhurst knotted the contest with two goals in the second period and then took the lead two more scores in the third.
During the second, Horton scored on a 5-on-3 power play, getting assists from Dingeldein and Mahadeo, before Janiga tied the contest with assists from
Sarah Hine and
Molly Blasen.
Accursi put Mercyhurst in the lead with 13:06 remaining in the third.
Rachael Smith and goaltender
Sarah McDonnell had assists on the play.
Dingledein tallied an empty-netter with 1:36 left. Mahadeo and
Lauren Kilroy recorded assists.
McDonnell earned the win in net, finishing with 24 saves.
Bailey Larson and Breanne Wilson-Bennett had goals for the Raiders. Goalie Ashlynne Rando had 17 stops.
The Lakers finished 2 of 4 on the power play while Colgate went 0-for-4. Colgate outshot Mercyhurst, 26-21.
The same two teams will meet again on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
