Beins and Williams Combine to Lift Lakers Over Kutztown in Overtime, 71-70

ERIE, Pa. – Gerrae Williams drilled a 3-pointer with 1:24 remaining in overtime to send Mercyhurst to a 71-70 victory over Kutztown.

Sean Beins, who had a game-high 20 points, gave Mercyhurst a 3-point lead following his shot from behind the arc with 49 seconds remaining in regulation.  Kutztown's Ethan Ridgeway then drove down the court, pulled up and shot over a Laker defender to knot the game at 62-62 with 31 seconds to play.  Beins had a chance to win in regulation but his shot went wide and Kutztown's full-court heave had no chance.

H'ian Hale's two free-throws midway through the overtime period tied the game for the 11th time and Anthony Selby connected on a layup at 1:54 before Williams' heroics.  Each team missed its final two shots and Kutztown's Austin Beidelman was whistled for an offensive charge with six seconds remaining.

Mercyhurst (3-1, 2-1 PSAC) received a double-digit effort from Damon Jones (14 points) in the victory and featured a balanced scoring attack from all Lakers as the reserves nearly equaled the starters in points.  Kutztown (3-1, 2-1 PSAC) had three players in double-figures, including a team-high 17 from Ryan Connolly.

The Lakers return to action on November 24 when they travel to Daemen College.
