BUFFALO, N.Y. --
Lester Lancaster scored two goals, helping the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Canisius in Atlantic Hockey Association action on Saturday. The Laker victory snapped a seven-game winless streak against the Golden Griffins (0-6-1).
Jack Riley and
Kyle Dutra also had goals for Mercyhurst.
Philippe Drouin had three assists while
Jonathan Charbonneau made two. Riley and
Derek Barach also had helpers.
Winning goaltender
Adam Carlson finished with 24 saves.
Lancaster scored the first goal just 1:08 into the contest, getting assists from Charabonneau and Barach. Riley put in a power-play goal later in the first period with assists Charbonneau and Drouin.
Mike Sabatini tallied the host Griffins' only goal to cut Mercyhurst's lead in half before a Lancaster power-play goal pushed the Laker lead back to 3-1. Riley and Drouin assisted Lancaster's second goal.
Dutra iced the game with an empty-netter with 1:13 remaining in the third as Drouin finished off his playmaker.
The Lakers finished 2 of 4 on the power play while keeping Canisius (3-8-0, 3-3-0) from scoring on six opportunities. The Golden Griffins had a 25-24 shot advantage.
Mercyhurst (8-6-0, 6-2-0) will return to action on Friday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 5, with a pair of AHA games at Holy Cross. Faceoff times are at 7:05 p.m.
