Box Score ERIE, Pa. -- Ten different Lakers recorded points as the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team claimed a 5-1 victory over Cornell in Friday's non-conference action at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. MU is now 6-0-1 in its last seven games.
Brooke Hartwick finished with two points -- a goal and an assist -- to lead the Mercyhurst scoring effort.
Jenna Dingeldein,
Jaclyn Arbour,
Rachael Smith and
Hannah Bale also tallied goals.
Goaltender Sara McDonnell improved her record to 6-1-2, finishing with 20 saves.
Dingeldein gave the Lakers a 1-0 first-period lead, getting assists from Hartwick and
Molly Blasen, before Cornell evened the score early in the second on a power-play goal by Micah Hart.
Arbour's unassisted goal served as the game-winner with 8:55 remaining in the second.
The Lakers (6-5-2) put in three insurance netters in the third. Smith scored on the power play with assists from
Emily Janiga and
J'nai Mahadeo. After being taken down by a Cornell defender, Bale converted a penalty shot. Hartwick finished the scoring with 2:54 left in the game, getting assists from
Paige Horton and
Morgan Stacey.
Goalie Amelia Boughn had 23 saves for Cornell (2-5-2).
Both squads were 1 of 4 on the power play. The Lakers outshot Cornell, 28-21.
The same two teams will meet again on Saturday. Faceoff will be at 2 p.m.
