WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. - Four Mercyhurst Lakers scored in double-figures but it was not enough to overcome No. 21-ranked West Liberty in the season-opener, 78-64.

Adrienne Kloecker led all scorers with 17 points while Angela Heintz added 13 points and Jessica Bell and Natalie Piaggesi each added 11 points for the Lakers.  

Mercyhurst never led in the contest, succombing to a 41-23 deficit at halftime before mounting a rally in the third quarter.  After being held to just 28 points through the first 23 minutes, the Lakers closed out the third quarter on an extended 26-9 run to pull within striking distance, 60-54, heading into the fourth quarter.  However, the Hilltoppers outscored Mercyhurst 18-10 in the final quarter to seal the victory.

The Lakers take on Notre Dame College in the final game of the opening weekend tournament.  Notre Dame fell to defending national champion California (Pa.) 76-67 in the first game of the Mountain East / Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Crossover Tournament.
