MILLERSVILLE, PA – The Mercyhurst University men's soccer team clinched the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Regular Season Championship for the fourth consecutive year with a 2-1 win at Millersville Saturday afternoon in double overtime. Junior
Joseph Korb (Willowick, Ohio) was the hero as he scored the game-winner with eight seconds to play.With the win, the Lakers improve to 9-7-1, 9-1-1 PSAC, while Millersville falls to 13-4-1, 9-3 PSAC.
The Lakers got off to an early lead when graduate
Thom Derks (Horst, Netherlands) beat Marauders goalkeeper Kohl Orner with a shot that grazed off the post and in. It was Derks' fourth goal on the year.
Millersville would tie the game on a penalty shot in the 56th minute. Jaime Vazquez beat Lakers netminder
Daniel Lowton for his 18th goal of the year.
With the score remaining tied at one, that set up the heroics from Korb. Korb blasted a free kick with eight seconds remaining to play in the second overtime period to clinch the title for the Lakers. It was Korb's fourth tally on the season and second game-winner.
Mercyhurst is expected to host the 2015 PSAC Tournament for the fourth consecutive season, first under head coach
Nenad Vidakovic. The PSAC Tournament begins Tuesday,
November 3, with a quarterfinals matchup. Mercyhurst will begin play Friday, November 6, against TBA.
