Men’s Soccer Wins 3-1 at Lock Haven Saturday Night

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team defeated Lock Haven 3-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play Friday night at Hubert Jack Stadium. With the win, the Lakers improve to 6-7-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the PSAC, while Lock Haven falls to 6-7-1, 5-3.

Senior captains Sten Marcson and Thomas Davis gave the Lakers a 2-0 advantage in the first half. Marcson, an Onsala, Sweden native, netted his third goal of the season to give Mercyhurst the 1-0 advantage at the 13:52 mark, while Davis, an Auckland, New Zealand native, was assisted by teammates Michael Dirienzo and Joespeh Korb for his fourth of the year. Davis' shot came of a corner and was deflected into the net with 7:57 remaining to play in the first half.

Mercyhurst would add another goal in the 64th minute when Korb struck a shot from 20 yards out to beat Bald Eagles keeper Troy Teresak to the far post. It was Korb's third goal on the year.

Lock Haven broke the shutout with just over five to play when Colt Brackbill headed a ball past Laker goalkeeper Daniel Lowton for his first goal of the season. Brackbill's header came off a free kick in the 84th minute, to end the scoring.

Mercyhurst edged Lock Haven in shots, 12-11, while each team was awarded four corner kicks.

Lowton recorded two saves in the win and improved his record to 4-2 overall.

The Lakers will resume play Wednesday, October 21, at cross-town rival Gannon. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
