ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will play host to Slippery Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) west matchup. Saturday afternoon's game is scheduled to tipoff at 1:00 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center (MAC).
The Lakers defeated Mansfield, 74-36, Wednesday night at the MAC.
Natalie Piaggesi was the star of the show, recording her first career triple-double. The sophomore scored a game-high 19 points along with teammate
Adrienne Kloecker, and she grabbed 17 rebounds and added 10 blocks. Piaggesi was perfect from the field, shooting 7-7 from the floor and went 5-5 from the free-throw line. Piaggesi and Kloecker rank 12th and 13th in the PSAC in scoring, averaging 13.9 and 13.7 points a game. Mercyhurst is third in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 43.1 % from the field this season and is averaging 63.9 points per game.
Slippery Rock is coming off an 80-47 loss to Bloomsburg at home Wednesday, January 7. The loss dropped The Rock to sixth in the PSAC west behind Pitts-Johnstown. D'Asia Chambers leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. She was a pre-season All-PSAC selection. Chambers also is second in the conference in scoring, posting 233 points this season. She trails only Lindsay Stamp of IUP with 268 points. Slippery Rock is shooting 37.5% from the field this season and is averaging 64.7 pointer per contest.
The two teams split a season ago. Each team beat one another on their home court. Mercyhurst defeated Slippery Rock, 82-75, on January 18 and The Rock came to Erie to beat the Lakers, 70-63, February 12.
