ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will travel downtown to battle Gannon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division matchup. Saturday afternoon's game will tipoff at 1:00 p.m. at the Hammermill Center. The women's game will promote breast cancer awareness in the Armour Up to Fight Breast Cancer game, and there will be free admission into the gymnasium for both contests. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Eighth Annual Pink Zone event instead of charging admission.    
 
Mercyhurst is coming off a tough loss at home to California (Pa.), 72-46, Wednesday night. Natalie Piaggesi was the only Laker in double figures, scoring 10 points on 4-8 shooting from the field. Piaggesi continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.5 points and 7.4 boards a game. She is the tenth leading scorer in the PSAC. Mercyhurst also holds one of the top spots in the PSAC in field goal percentage (3rd), shooting 43.5% from the floor on the year.
 
Gannon is coming off a PSAC Western Division win at Slippery Rock Saturday night, 72-50. Nettie Blake paced the Golden Knights, scoring a game-high 19 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. Gannon is currently riding a seven game win streak and are third in the PSAC Western Division standings. The Golden Knights are sixth in the conference in rebounding, pulling down 42.2 boards a game. Blake is a heavy contributor to the teams rebounding success, as she leads the PSAC, averaging 11.3 rebounds a game.   
 
Gannon leads the all-time series, 53-27. The first time these two schools met was in the 1974-75 season, when the Lakers beat the Golden Knights, 72-63. Mercyhurst has not beaten Gannon the past three seasons, going 0-6 over the span. The last time the Lakers beat the Golden Knights was the 2010-11 season, 66-56 at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. Mercyhurst faced off twice against Gannon that year and came out victorious, winning the first at Gannon, 75-63.
