ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will travel to play two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover games against Eastern Division opponents Shippensburg and Kutztown Saturday and Sunday. Both contests are scheduled for 1:00 tipoffs.
The Lakers are coming off a tough, 61-59, loss at Millersville Saturday, December 20. Katie Fisher led Mercyhurst in scoring, coming off the bench to post 16 points while draining four three-pointers.
Natalie Piaggesi followed Fischer, scoring 15 points.
Mariah Penascino filled up the stat sheet, as she was two assists shy of a triple-double. She went on to score 11 points, grab ten rebounds, and dish out eight assists. Mercyhurst is shooting 43.4% from the field this season which ranks fifth in the PSAC. They are also averaging 6.7 made three-point field goals, ranking sixth.
Shippensburg is sixth in the Eastern Division, coming into Saturday's game with a 6-6 overall record and are 2-4 in PSAC play. The Raiders come into Saturday after splitting a pair of crossover games, beating Slippery Rock on the road, 86-48, and losing at home to Edinboro, 69-62. Stephanie Knauer is scoring 14.9 points per game to lead the Raiders. Lauren Gold follows with 11.8 points, while Morgan Griffith is posting 11.1 points and 9.3 boards a game. The Raiders were picked to finish third in the Eastern Division, according to the preseason coaches' poll.
Kutztown will be the host to Sunday's matchup at Keystone Arena, as they are currently fourth in the PSAC East Division with a 4-5 overall record and 3-4 in conference. The Golden Bears are averaging 64.9 points per game and are shooting 37.5% on the year. Kutztown will host Edinboro on Saturday before Sundays meeting with the Lakers. Advia Campbell leads the Golden Bears, averaging 11.8 points per game and 8.1 rebounds.
