Men’s Basketball Travels to Clarion for PSAC Western Division Matchup

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's basketball team will travel to Clarion in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division matchup. The Lakers will face off against the Golden Eagles Wednesday, January 14 at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled 7:30 p.m.

Mercyhurst is coming off two wins last week, where the Lakers defeated Mansfield Wednesday, January 7, 82-60, in the team's last crossover game of the season. On Saturday, the Lakers had a showdown with rival Slippery Rock at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. Mercyhurst would never trail during the contest, despite The Rock's late comeback, pulling the game within two points. Damon Jones led the team in scoring, netting 14 points on 4-8 shooting. As a team, the Lakers shot 35.2% (19-54) from the field. Mercyhurst would outrebound Slippery Rock, who leads the conference in rebounding, 42-40.

Clarion is currently seventh in the PSAC West, riding a 6-7 overall record and a 4-6 conference mark. The Golden Eagles are coming off back-to-back losses last week. Clarion lost a close battle to Shippensburg, 73-72, Wednesday and dropped a PSAC Western Division matchup at Seton Hill, 79-57, Saturday. Darius Stevens leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.2 points per game. Kyheim Hall leads Clarion in rebounding, averaging 6.6 rebounds a game.

Last season, Mercyhurst swept a pair of meetings with the Golden Eagles, defeating Clarion January 22, 2014, 61-54, at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center and on February 23, 52-43, at Clarion.
