ERIE, Pa. – In the home opener for the Mercyhurst women's soccer team, the Lakers' tied Edinboro 2-2.

Edinboro struck first in the 17th minute when Allyson Overly assisted Alex Brown off a corner kick. The ball was deflected off a Mercyhurst defender, and the ball bounced to Overly where she, then, passed off to Brown for the goal.

The Lakers' fought back, scoring just minutes later off a beautiful pass from defenseman, Fawn Mulholland, setting up forward, Kristina Roberti, for the breakaway goal.

As the rain started to pick up near the 38 minute mark of the first half, Janine Wong took a deep, straight on shot from 25 yards out that went off the goal keeper's hands and into the upper right corner of the net. The score at the half remained 2-1 after the Wong goal.

During the second half, the Lakers' played stellar defense keeping the ball out of their zone for the majority of the half.

With 10 minutes remaining in the contest, a shot from an Edinboro player was saved by goal keeper, Ellie McDougall but resulted in a rebound opportunity for the Scots. Alex Brown took advantage of the rebound and beat McDougall to the upper right corner of the net for her second goal of the day.

At the end of regulation, the game remained tied, 2-2.

In the first overtime period, a corner threatened the Lakers' but eventually were able to get the ball out of their defensive third and keep the score at 2-2.

The second overtime brought a lot of chances for both teams to take an advantage. Mercyhurst was able to put four shots on goal, while Edinboro had three that were all saved by McDougall.

Mercyhurst was out shot in the contest 19-8 and McDougall recorded nine saves.

The Lakers' record after today's contest is 1-0-1 (1-0-1 PSAC) and Edinboro is now 0-1-1 (0-1-1 PSAC).

Mercyhurst's next game is September 10, at Lock Haven. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
