McDougall Shuts Out Mansfield as Women's Soccer Wins 2-0

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team opened the 2014 season with an impressive 2-0 win over the Mansfield Mountaineers.

Despite being outshot 19-9, the Lakers still found a way to pull through and find the back of the net.

The Lakers' first goal was scored in the 20th minute by Lauren Testa on a fast break from the left side five yards out. Linnea Laitinen assisted on the goal. The second goal of the day was scored by midfielder Janine Wong on a penalty kick in the 51st minute.

It was a tough fought game, as the ladies recorded 10 fouls to Mansfield's four and two yellow cards. The Mountaineers also recorded more shots on goal and had two more corner kicks.  

Goalkeeper Ellie McDougall, recorded her first shutout of the season. She faced 19 shots and had nine saves.

The women will take their 1-0 record into their first home game of the season this Saturday, September 6, at 1 p.m. against Edinboro.
