Dingeldein's Hat Trick Leads #9/9 Women's Hockey Past Pursuit of Excellence, 7-0



ERIE, Pa.- The #9/9 Mercyhurst women's hockey team beat Pursuit of Excellence, 7-0, in an exhibition on Friday night. Jenna Dingeldein led the Lakers with a hat trick at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
 
Kirsten Miller scored a short-handed goal 1:37 in, taking advantage of a miscue by the Pursuit goalie to put the Lakers ahead early.
 
In the second period, Miller found Whiddon for a goal at the 4:23 mark. A few minutes later, Molly Byrne fired a shot, which Hannah Bale deflected into the goal for a 3-0 advantage. Dingeldein then finished a Caroline Luczak pass for a 4-0 lead at the 17:56 mark.
 
J'nai Mahadeo weaved her way through the Pursuit defense and beat the goalie for a 5-0 margin early in the third frame. Dingeldein scored from Byrne and Miller at the 4:38 mark and then completed her big night with a goal at the 17:28 mark. Jaclyn Arbour and Taylor Accursi assisted on the score.
 
Amanda Makela made 10 saves while playing just over 30 minutes in net. Julia DiTondo added six stops in 29:11 of action. In addition to the shorthanded goal, Mercyhurst also notched two power play goals.
 
Mercyhurst outshot its foe, 52-16, and won 43-67 faceoffs on the night.
 
Mercyhurst opens the 2014-15 regular season on Friday, October 3, hosting Providence. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start the MIC.
