Box Score ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team made the trip downtown to face off against rival Gannon where the Lakers came up short, losing, 4-2.
Junior
Lauren Testa gave the Lakers an early lead, at the 3:59 mark; when
Rachel Fulton passed the ball down the right side to find
Kristina Roberti setting up a cross pass to Testa for the goal. It was Testa's fourth of the season.
The Golden Knights would strike back in the 19
th minute tying the game at one off a Mani Brueckner cross pass that found Hannah Manczka in front of the net to beat goalkeeper
Ellie McDougall.
Gannon would score again at the 26:25 mark on a Justine Rodrigues goal from 15 yards to take the lead, 2-1.
Just 54 seconds later, Gannon's Amanda Gallant put a high arching shot that dropped into the high left corner for a two goal advantage, 3-1.
Kristina Roberti would add a Laker goal right before the half in the 41
st minute off a
Janine Wong corner kick. It was Roberti's third of the season, and Mercyhurst went into halftime down, 3-2.
In the second half, the Golden Knights scored an insurance goal in the 61
st minute. Mani Brueckner put a shot on goal that deflected off a Laker defender and into the back of the net.
Mercyhurst was not able to answer the two goal deficit throughout the rest of the second half, as Gannon went on to win, 4-2
Despite Gannon only putting two more shots on goal, 7-5, the Golden Knights outshot the Lakers 18-7 in the contest.
Ellie McDougall recorded three saves in her second loss of the season. Her record in goal thus far is 2-2-1.
With the loss, Mercyhurst falls to 2-4-1, 2-4-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. Gannon improved to 4-4-0, 4-3-0 in the PSAC.
The Lakers will look to get back on track this Saturday, September 27, against Daemen College (NY). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Mercyhurst Soccer Field.
