Box Score

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team received their first loss of the season Saturday afternoon, September 13, to Bloomsburg University, 1-0.

The game was played evenly throughout the first half. Mercyhurst goal keeper Ellie McDougall went down early in the sixth minute with an apparent leg injury that brought in Sophomore Kristen Koch. It was Koch's was first game action of the season.

Mercyhurst had some opportunities in the first half but could not capitalize. In the 39th minute, Lauren Testa had a good look at the net but Bloomsburg goal keeper Megan Deak made a nice save.

The Lakers and Huskies each had six recorded shots in the first half.

The second half is where things started to get interesting. In the 75th minute, Mercyhurst had a costly foul in the box that led to a Bloomsburg penalty kick taken by Chrissy Hollan. Hollan beat Koch to the upper right corner of the net to take a late 1-0 advantage.

The Lakers didn't quite. They created three more opportunities to tie the game. One was off a Janine Wong corner kick in the 87th minute. She placed the ball beautifully into play giving her teammates a chance, but there was nothing getting past the Bloomsburg defense as they eventually got the ball out of their defensive third.

In the 88th minute, sophomore Linnea Laitinen put a shot on goal that just went wide, and, then, junior Kristina Roberti beat her defender for an open look but put the ball just over the crossbar. Bloomsburg was able to play keep away with the remaining time to take a win away from Mercyhurst at home.

The Lakers outshot the Huskies in the game by one, 13-12 and Koch finished with seven saves.

The loss drops Mercyhurst to 2-1-1 overall and in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
