URBANA, Ohio – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team picked up their third win of the season Friday night, September 12, at Urbana University (Ohio), 1-0.

In the first half, the Lakers had opportunities but could not capitalize. In the 25th minute, senior Fernando Martinez's shot hot off the crossbar was just one of many.  Goalie Nicolas Smith, making his second start on the year, was also tested in the first half by the Blur Knights. By the end of the period, Mercyhurst and Urbana recorded seven shots and each goalie came away with three saves. The Blue Knights did have an advantage in corner kicks six to one.

The second half was a different story. Mercyhurst turned up the heat when Sten Marcson took a free kick in the 48th minute that Jack Watson was able to handle and put in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. It was Watson's first goal of the season.

That would be all the Lakers needed, as they outplayed Urbana throughout the rest of the contest. Mercyhurst would end up outshooting the Blue Knights 11-3 in the second half and 18-10 in the game.

Smith finished off the game with four saves and recorded his second win of the season.

The win brings Mercyhurt's record to 3-1 overall. All games have been played against non-conferance opponents thus far.

The Lakers will be back in action on Sunday, September 14, at Ohio Dominican University in another non-conference matchup. The game is set for a 2 p.m. start.
