Volleyball to Host PSAC/MEC Crossover Matches This Weekend

Tai Lattimore and the Lakers open the home portion of their schedule this weekend.
ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team will host seven Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)/Mountain East Conference (MEC) Crossover matches at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center this weekend. The Lakers will be in action four times in two days.

Friday, September 12
Indiana (Pa.) vs. Notre Dame-1 p.m.
West Liberty at Mercyhurst-3 p.m.
Indiana (Pa.) vs. West Liberty-5 p.m.
Notre Dame College at Mercyhurst-7 p.m.
 
Saturday, September 13
Indiana (Pa.) vs. West Virginia State-10 a.m.
Charleston at Mercyhurst-noon
West Virginia State at Mercyhurst-4 p.m.
 
Mercyhurst went 1-2 at the Bellarmine Volleyball Classic last weekend. The Lakers swept Salem International in three games. Sarah Wegrzyn leads the team with 31 points (29 kills, two aces). Rachel Crittle has 21.5 points, while Lauren Kenny has registered 20 points. Kelly Vitt paces the Lakers with 43 assists, while Samantha Giardina has compiled 47 digs.
 
IUP has a 2-2 record, having won two of three matches at the Crimson Hawk Invitational before falling at Shepherd in four sets on Wednesday. Lauren Hester leads the Hawks with 41.5 points. Elizabeth Sova has recorded 36 points in four outings.
 
Notre Dame College is 2-2 this season. It dropped a four-game decision at Lake Erie College on Tuesday. Lindsay Shirilla paces the Falcons with 46.5 points and Tawny Flareau and Shelby Regiec have combined for 137 assists.
 
West Liberty has an 0-4 mark after dropping all four of its matches at the Maryville Tournament last weekend. Chelsea Bertie has posted 40 kills and Chelsea Byrge has tallied 96 assists in 2014.
 
West Virginia State is 2-2, having split four outings at the Winston-Salem Tournament last weekend. Stats for the Yellow Jackets were not available Thursday morning.
 
Charleston has a 1-4 record. The Golden Eagles swept Ohio Valley on Tuesday to pick up their first win of the season. Clairissa Larry leads the team with 44.5 points and Elle Martin has totaled 55 digs.
