Women’s Soccer Beats Lock Haven on the Road, 2-0

Junior Lauren Testa scored two goals against Lock Haven to carry the women's soccer team to their second win of the season.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team picked up their second Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win over Lock Haven Wednesday night, September 10, 2-0.

The Lakers came out firing early in the game with three shots on goal before junior Lauren Testa found the back of the net right before the half ended in the 42nd minute. Testa was assisted by senior Kiley Cleveland on a cross pass that Testa was able to volley past the goal line for her second goal of the year. Mercyhurst would take a one to nothing advantage into halftime.

In the second half, it was much of the same for the Lakers as they continued to put pressure on Lock Haven goal keeper Michelle Cuomo. Mercyhurst would eventually get to Cuomo to the put the game out of reach in the 66th minute when Testa scored her second goal of the night, third on season. She was assisted again from Cleveland off a rebound shot that came right back to Testa for an easy score.

Goal keeper Ellie McDougall had one save and recorded her second shutout of the season. It was her seventh career shutout and still has yet to let up a goal on the road this year.

The Lakers outshot the Bald Eagles seven to five. Five of the seven shots were on goal.

The win moves the Lakers record to 2-0-1 while Lock Haven falls to 1-2-0 in PSAC play.

Mercyhurst will travel back home to host Bloomsburg in another PSAC match on Saturday, September 13. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
