Seniors Honored at Final Home Games Against IUP

ERIE, Pa. – Four seniors were honored during the Mercyhurst softball doubleheader against Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Softball Field.  The Lakers dropped to the Crimson Hawks 10-1, 12-2 in the doubleheader to finish their season 15-26-1 overall and 9-16-1 in the PSAC.
 
In game one the Lakers suffered two separate three run innings to trail 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.  Junior Becky Malaga ended IUP's pitcher Alexa Campbell perfect game with a solo homerun to deep center field for her first of the season.  IUP however pressured the Lakers pitcher Annie Truelove but crossing the plate four more times through the top of the seventh inning.
 
Truelove (8-14) pitched seven complete innings for ten earned runs on 14 hits and collected five strikeouts.  Campbell pitched seven complete innings for two hits, one earned run and two walks.
 
In game two, the Lakers pitching staff gave up four homeruns in five innings for 12 runs scored from the Crimson Hawks.  Mercyhurst had a last minute rally with senior Courtney Smith driving in an RBI from a single to right center field.  Senior Colleen Griffin tallied her first RBI of the season after driving the ball to third base and allowed the batters to advance.
 
Junior Alexandra Puckly (7-9) suffered the loss on the mound after pitching one complete inning.  Senior Colleen Griffin appeared on the mound for two complete innings while senior Megan Smith completed the final two outs of the fifth inning.
 
The Mercyhurst Lakers finished their season with an overall record of 15-26-1 and 9-16-1 in the PSAC West.  The Mercyhurst softball program will lose four seniors due to graduation – Courtney Smith, Megan Smith, Kayleigh Milliman, and Colleen Griffin.
