Game Two of Softball's DH Ends in Tie Due to Darkness

Freshman Khee Nance went a season-best 3-for-4 at the plate against Edinboro despite the loss.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EDINBORO, Pa. – Game two of the doubleheader against Edinboro University had a strange turn of events as the Lakers led 6-4 but was called due to darkness in Edinboro on Monday evening.  The Lakers suffered a 10-6 loss in game one to fall to 13-24 on the season and 7-14 in the PSAC Western Division.
 
The result of game two was determined by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference as a tie/ The Lakers took a 6-4 lead at the top of the sixth inning before it was determined that play was unsafe due to lack of sunlight.  Due to the rules, the game was reverted back to the completion of the fifth inning where the Lakers were knotted up at four with Edinboro. 

Sophomore Kayla Larson drove in a run at the top of the first inning before The Fighting Scots scored all four of their runs at the bottom of the first inning with the help of a two run rally to lead 4-1.  Proctor, Hyland and Mason all tallied RBIs. 
 
The Lakers tied the game with three runs off of three hits in the top of the second.  Senior Becky Malaga lead the team in RBIs in game one after driving a single through the right side with freshman Rachel DiBartolomeo and Francesca Costanzo in scoring position.

In game one, the Lakers took away an early 6-0 lead at the top of the second inning against the Fighting Scots.  Of The six runs, only two were earned as there were four Edinboro errors however the Lakers collected seven hits including doubles from senior Courtney Smith and freshman Rachel DiBartolomeo.
 
The Fighting Scots answered back with four runs off of five hits in the bottom of the third inning including two RBIs from Heather Tighe's single with two outs.  Edinboro crossed the dish once the next inning to trail by one run, 6-5, before driving in five runs off of six hits at the bottom of the sixth. 
 
Junior Annie Truelove suffered the loss on the mound after allowing 14 hits for ten earned runs and three strikeouts.  Her counterpart, Samantha Weaver, pitched just 1.2 innings and allowed eight hits for six earned runs.  Claire Johnston went in for the relief for the remainder five innings, and shut down the Lakers by allowing just four hits. 
 
Freshman Khyshwaunna Nance led the team at the plate after going 3-for-4 at the plate (season-best), scored one run and drove in one RBI.  Senior Megan smith went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored, while Rachel DiBartolomeo went 2-for-3 the an RBI and crossed the dish once. 
 
The Lakers host Seton Hill University on Wednesday, April 23 at the Mercyhurst Softball Field for a make-up doubleheader from earlier this season.  First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
