Megan Smith Goes 7-for-7 in Twinbill Against Rival Gannon

ERIE, Pa. – Senior Megan Smith went 7-for-7 at the plate against Gannon University en route to a split on Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Softball Field.  The Lakers earned a 4-0 victory before suffering a 5-1 deficit in game two.

The Lakers are now 7-13 in the PSAC West and are 13-23 overall this season.  Gannon University is now 8-10 in the PSAC West and are now 15-17 overall this season. 
 
Senior Megan Smith batted 7-for-7 throughout the day to lead the Lakers towards the split.  She drove in two runs and crossed the dish three times in the process.  Megan Smith tabbed six singles and drove in a two-run homerun throughout the seven hits.  This was the first time in Smith's career that she batted a perfect doubleheader. 
 
The Lakers scored back to back two-run innings at the start of the game to propel them to the 4-0 victory.  Senior Courtney Smith drove in freshman Rachel DiBartolomeo and senior Megan Smith with just one out after driving the ball to deep left center. 
 
Again with one out, senior Megan Smith tallied her ninth homerun of the season with senior Kayleigh Milliman on first base.  Smith's nine homerun also marked her season-high in homeruns and is second in the PSAC.
 
Junior Annie Truelove (8-11) captured the win in seven innings and allowed five hits and collected one strikeout.  Her counterpart Olivia Gumbita pitched six complete innings and allowed 12 hits for four runs and struck out one.
 
In game two, Mercyhurst suffered five runs spread out through the first three innings off of 12 hits.  The Lakers tallied their lone run at the bottom of the sixth inning after senior Courtney Smith drove in senior Megan Smith
 
Senior Colleen Griffin suffered her first loss of the season (0-1) in her first start.  She allowed seven hits for five runs and collected two strikeouts.  Truelove came in and allowed five hits in 4.2 innings.
 
The Lakers travel to Edinboro University for their final road twinbill of the season.  First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
