Box Score 2 ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University softball team was swept by Edinboro University on Friday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Softball Field.
The Lakers seventh inning rally fell short in a 4-3 loss in game one before suffering an 8-2 loss in game two. The Lakers are now 12-22 in the season and are now 6-12 in the PSAC West.
In game one, Mercyhurst took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after freshman

Becky Malaga drew the throw to second base. Senior
Megan Smith tallied her seventh homerun of the season in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 2-0.
At the top of the sixth, Edinboro drove four runs across the plate to take a 4-2 lead. Kylie Marson, Laura Crooks and Brenna Cosgrove all collected RBIs.
Freshman
Francesca Costanzo drove in an RBI to narrow the lead to 4-3 after a sacrifice fly to deep center field. Edinboro however stopped the Lakers rally forcing pop outs to the infield.
Junior
Annie Truelove (6-12) allowed nine hits for four runs and collected five strikeouts. Her counterpart Samantha Weaver (3-6) allowed just three Mercyhurst hits and collected one strikeouts.
In game two, the Lakers suffered a 5-0 deficit after four innings. The Fighting Scots Mason hit a solo homerun in the fourth before T.L. Wreh-Wilson drove in a three-run homerun to extend the Edinboro lead.

Megan Smith singled to allow sophomore
Kayla Larson to score in the fifth making the score 5-1. Sophomore
Taylor Jezuit drove in her first RBI of the season after putting the ball in play to the short stop, narrow the 5-2 lead. Edinboro however drove in three more RBIs at the top of the seventh to seal the 8-2 win.
Junior
Alexandra Puckly (7-7) allowed six hits in four innings pitched and allowed five runs. Senior
Colleen Griffin appeared on the mound beginning in the fifth inng and allowed six hits for three runs and had two strikeouts.
The Lakers host Gannon University on Saturday, April 19 at the Mercyhurst Softball Field. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
