Men's Basketball Prepares for Slippery Rock Wednesday Night

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team hosts Slippery Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game on Wednesday, February 12. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

Mercyhurst is 12-9 overall and 8-3 in the PSAC after falling to rival Gannon, 56-54, on February 8. Jean Onana and Greg Williams each scored 14 points in the loss.
 
Slippery Rock has a 17-7 overall mark, including an 8-4 record in the conference. It beat Pitt-Johnstown, 88-77, on February 8. Four Rock players scored in double figures, led by Maurice Lewis-Briggs with 17 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Lakers are giving up 60.9 points per game, fourth-fewest in the country. They have held 20 of their 21 opponents under their season scoring average. Offensively, Jonathan Ouegnin leads the attack. He tops the team in scoring (9.7), rebounding (5.6), and assists (3.0) per game.
 
The Rock ranks 11th nationally in scoring defense, allowing 64.4 points per game. SRU leads the PSAC in field goal percentage defense (37.7 percent) and rebounding margin (plus-10.9) this season. Lewis-Briggs is averaging 17.2 points and 7.6 boards per game.
 
Both teams have clinched spots in the PSAC Tournament. Mercyhurst is a game back of #9 IUP for first place. Gannon sits in second at 9-3. The Rock is half-a-game behind Mercyhurst. The four teams are jockeying for potential byes and home contests in the PSAC Tournament.
