ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's basketball team will travel to Edinboro for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup Saturday at McComb Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
Mercyhurst swept the Fighting Scots a season ago in two close games. The Lakers won at the MAC on January 15 in overtime, 77-65, and pulled out a victory at McComb Fieldhouse a month later on a buzzer beater from
Anthony Lytle to win, 62-60.
Mercyhurst is coming in to Saturday's contest off of one of the biggest wins in program history. The Lakers upset #5 Indiana (Pa.) at the Kovalchick Center, 65-62, to hand the Crimson Hawks their first loss of the season. Behind a career-high 20 points from
Damon Jones Wednesday night, the Lakers won their third consecutive game and forth of the season.
Two Lakers scored in double figures. Jones finished 7-8 from the field, while
Gerrae Williams added 11 points on 4-9 shooting. Mercyhurst shot 21-41 (51.2%) from the field and 7-11 (63.6%) from three-point range, their highest mark of the season.
With the victory, Mercyhurst improved their record to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in PSAC play.
Edinboro dropped their second PSAC contest Wednesday night at Slippery Rock, 69-65, as they come into Saturday's contest 3-3 and 1-2 in PSAC play. The Fighting Scots' Wade Chatman scored a game-high 25 points on eight of 12 shooting, to lead the Fighting Scots. Jaymon Mason added 12, while Edinboro shot 24-63 (38.1%) from the floor and went 9-19 (47.4%) from the charity stripe. Edinboro is shooting 45.8% from the field this season while holding their opponents to 39.4%.
At Saturday's game, Edinboro will be hosting a Toys for Tots day. Anyone who donates a toy before the game will receive free admission.
