#7/8 Women's Hockey Drops 4-1 Decision at Syracuse Saturday Afternoon

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The #7/8 Mercyhurst women's hockey team fell, 4-1, at Syracuse Saturday afternoon. Jennifer MacAskill scored her first collegiate goal in the College Hockey America (CHA) match at Tennity Ice Pavilion.

The first period went by with no score, as Amanda Makela posted eight saves. Early in the second frame, Hannah Bale and Kirsten Miller set up a MacAskill goal at the 5:31 mark. A few minutes later, Syracuse scored the tying goal.

In the third period, Melissa Piacentini found the back of the net on a power play, giving the Orange a 2-1 edge. Cuse added a pair of empty net goals late to expand the margin.

Makela tallied 25 saves in net. The Lakers allowed just their second power-play goal of the season, as Mercyhurst has held opponents to 2-45 on penalties.

The Lakers dropped to 9-2-1 on the season, including a 3-1-0 mark in the CHA. Syracuse moved to 3-4-5 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak this season and ended a 29-match unbeaten streak in the all-time series between the programs.

Mercyhurst heads to Ohio State for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, November 11.
